SoCal Field Study

Join our field study.

We're sending out 50 free microplastics test kits for the SoCal field study. Run the test on whatever water you want — tap, your existing filter, a baby bottle, bottled water, whatever — film your run as field documentation, and your sample goes on the public SoCal Water Map next to everyone else's.

Free kit. Same-day results. 48-hour turnaround on applications.

Which sample are you bringing to the study?

No purchase. No spam. Takes 30 seconds.

Who's asking

I'm Andrew. I built a fluorescence microscopy lab in my garage because no one could show me what was in my tap water without a $600 lab test. This kit is the same method the research papers use — Nile Red dye, blue light, a filter — packaged so anyone can run it at home. If you get stuck mid-test, you're texting me.

The field study so far

This isn't hypothetical. The study is already running.

Every sample goes on the live public map with the neighborhood, particle count, and the raw photo. Yours would go on it too.

Quick answers

Is it safe? Am I handling chemicals?

Yes, it's safe. You're using a tiny amount of Nile Red — a fluorescent dye used in research labs — and a filter. No harsh chemicals, no fumes, no special training. Same method published in peer-reviewed papers, just packaged so anyone can run it at home.

What's actually in the box?

Everything you need for two complete tests: pre-measured dye, filter membranes, a syringe, a blue-light lamp, and a step-by-step instruction card. If you can fill a glass with water, you can run this.

How long does it take?

About 10 minutes of hands-on work per test. Most of the time is just waiting for the filter. You'll see your result the same day, right where you're running it.

Will I actually see anything?

Microplastic particles glow fluorescent pink under the blue light. You'll see them with your naked eye on the filter — no microscope. The result photos on this site are what every field tester sees when they run a test.

Does it cost me anything?

No. The kit is free, shipping is free. The only thing we ask is the raw video of you running it and an honest email reply when we follow up.

Who sees my video?

You send the raw footage to us — we'll email you how once you're picked. We may use it in our own marketing with credit. Posting it anywhere public is your call, not ours.
